Homefront is such an engaging book because it shows how the people at home were fighting the war, too, even if they were not physically fighting the war. To connect it to WWII, students could be asked to read the book and to make a list of how the war was fought on the homefront in it? Questions ould include, "What small sacrafices were made in this book to help the war effort?" "How would you feel if you had to give up your bedroom for someone escaping the direct effects of war?" and "Do you think that the main character was selfish because she only thought of "her room' ather than her brother or her cousin?" Students might also be able to compare this book to another about another war and offer soem similarities.
